Vienna State Opera - IV

Here is another room for social functions.

It is decorated with modern art. Nice place but not to my taste.

But the auditorium is where the magic happens. Let me tell you a little about this magic. In season, the opera presents a different opera every night. This is done so that the multitude of visitors to the city each year will have as many different operas to see as possible. Since there is no storage on site for the complicated sets, they are stored out of town in a facility for this purpose. This means that every day, the last set is packed into trucks and taken away while the next one is unloaded and unpacked.

There are computer controlled elevators and sliding stage floors that raise/lower the sets between acts and shift in and out of position so that the scene changes go smoothly. There must be an army here to keep this operating 'round the clock.

This tour brings us to the end of our summer adventure on the continent. Next stop is the southern coast of England. More churches, the sea, and more. Stay tuned for the adventure to continue.
