In the Roman statue section, there is this room filled with stone heads on posts. In the dimly lit room, this was kinda creepy.
But the stairs in this place are really amazing. Looking up to the next floor, we see the scene below.
Climbing the stairs and looking up again, we get this view.
Climbing those stairs, we come to a dome that covers the cafe. What a place to sit and enjoy a coffee and a sweet.
I did find a Vermeer in the galleries of more recent things (than ancient Roman). He painted all (or at least most) of his works in this room, upstairs in his home. His work is noted for his use of perspective ... the floor squares, the nearby drapery, the shapes of tables and other objects in the room are all in perfect proportions.
Besides, he lived around the corner from Antonie Philips van Leeuwenhoek, Fellow of the Royal Society and pioneer in microscopy.
