As is the case in many place in Europe, Vienna is a city of many curious juxtapositions. In this square, we find McDonald's located in a building of great beauty... not your neighborhood modern, boring, glass and concrete structure.
There are also many modern buildings nearby.
And many very traditional ones.
But the square is dominated but this massive cathedral.
But in more ways than just visually, St. Stephan's dominates the square. Here is what it is like when the church rings the bells.
Leaving the square, we headed toward the Hofburg. Along the way we passed this column in the street. I'm not entirely sure what this is to represent or commemorate, but I'm quite sure that God is a the root of the issue.
We and dozens of other tourists fill the streets on the way to the Palace.
No, we did not go in for a tour. We visited part of this place years before to see the Lipizzaner horses. We chose to explore onward. Besides, our feet hurt and this is our cue to stop and eat.
