Today we start with another one of the beautiful doors of the church.
The other day I showed you a gravestone with an anchor engraved on it. This one is on a much different plane. I don't believe that I've ever seen a stone carving of a rope. This is a rare specimen.
And even if this stone angel is a bit more common, there is something arresting in the angle of the body and the wind in the hair. It almost seems to have once been alive.
This angel is straight from the Victorian mould and is quite standard.
The cross below with the bird bowed over it is another typical remembrance from the 19th century.
