Portions of the trail still have a short bits of the track on the side to remind us of its origins and no doubt save the money of ripping it out.
One of the interesting think you might never have noticed are the electrical connections between sections of the rails. As best I can figure, this is part of the electrical signaling system used to detect the presence of the train. Portions of one of the tracks are connected together while the other is grounded. Then when a train is present in a section, the train connects the rails and completes the circuit. This then signals where the train is. Clever, eh?
While we are busy building smart train(-ish) train systems, mother nature continues her inexorable push to retake the land from the impudent pretensions of man. this vine pushing through a fence looks very menacing.
But these leaves are smooth, symmetric, and peaceful. Just the way we like nature to be in our lives.
