Kossuth Lajos tér and Falk Miksa utca

"Tér" is Hungarian for square and "utca" is the word for street. This square is the place where the famous Hungarian Parliament building is found.

There are miles of stairs in this place. On our previous visit, I went inside and loads of photos, which I only realized today, never got processed, labeled, and posted. I have gone through them for the past hour getting them processed and labeled. Soon I will post them.

This is largest parliament building in Europe and I'm guessing that it is most ornate. Pretty amazing place.

Across the square is the building that previously housed the Ethnographic Museum. We have visited the new one and you will also being seeing posts from that trip upcoming as well.

On this day, we seemed to be all about eating. So, we stopped at restaurant on the edge of the square and had a bite of lunch. When we left, we headed down Falk Miksa utca. This is a street named after Peter (Michael) Falk. Although he was born in the Bronx, his mother had Hungarian (and Polish) roots. thus, Hungary has claimed him as a favorite son.

Along this street we find more amazing doorways.

Several blocks down from the parliament, we reach the end of the street and a statue of Falk, dressed as Colombo, and his TV beagle.

I took tour walking tour soon after we arrived in Budapest (yet another thing you'll see here in the not too distant future) and my tour guide told me that Hungarians claim 18 of their own on the list of Nobel Laureates. the catch is that none lived in the country. Some were even left the country due to lack of funding support from the government funding agencies (some others left in fear for their lives...you know, the Soviets and Nazis and all). Yet, when they hit paydirt, they are all claimed as their local sons and daughters. Similarly, Peter Falk is also honored.
