The japanese maples we have in our front yard are now a vibrant red and bring a delightful contrast with the yellow leaf caught among the branches.
Other leaves that are in in the autumn transition bring yet other colors to view.
This leaf on the ground shows leaves in their final resting place for most of them. As you can see the ground is quite wet. We've had a lot of rain lately. Any risk of drought here west of the Cascades is long gone.
On the other hand, the recent forecasts of record rains have not been fulfilled. It has indeed rained a lot but not as much as expected. Moreover, on the east coast when it rains a lot, it really rains. Cats and dogs style. Here, a lot of rain most often means that it simply does what it usually does all the time, not intermittently. Only rarely does it really rain like it means it. Nevertheless, the ground is quite wet and we are getting tired of being wet and cold after only 4-5 weeks of being back from sunny California.
Back on the sidewalks, there are plenty of leaves drying in the afternoon sun.
