Bodie - II

As the town decays, there are juxtapositions of things from different eras. A wagon from the 19th century and a truck from the 20th hep create a tableau of this mining town.

Here's another view of the truck and wagon with one of the main streets in the background. This street is Green Street.

In such a wild place it is expected that people die regularly. Here is the funeral parlor complete with unused coffins and the drape from the side of the hearse.

It should come as no surprise that there is an I.O.O.F (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) building in town. It is on Main Street and has a wooden sidewalk. It sits next to the brick DeChambeau Hotel and Post Office Building. On the other side of the IOOF is the miners union hall and the morgue.

Clearly from the 20th century is this gas pump and truck. I asked one of the rangers here to remove the sign from the front of the truck that tells us that it is a 1923 Ford so I could make this photo. It was a slow afternoon and he kindly agreed.

This schoolhouse was used until 1942. Inside it looks very much like the classrooms I sat in as a child. These things change slowly.
