Mono Lake Cemetery

Mono Lake cemetery sits up the hill just north of the lake. From this higher vantage point, you can see the road leading down to the lake. A turn just before the lake takes you to the left in the photo and out to the cemetery.

There are some older graves in the cemetery, but it is still in use and there are many recent additions.

As you might expect, out here in the back of beyond in California, there are some free spirits in this area who have monuments that are, shall we say, non-standard.

Others monuments are more traditional. Yet, in this setting they still seem a little out of place.

Sitting on this rise above the lake, the cemetery overlooks a pleasant arm of the lake and the hillside beyond.

There are even markers that capture the impermanence of life and remembrance.
