Red Winged Blackbirds and a Significant Other

This place is full of these birds filling the air with their churrr and flute-o-phone-like calls. Of course, the colorful arm patch, like a soldier's mark of rank, makes them easy to identify.

Just like the wrens posted yesterday, the frequent calling of this birds means that some photos will catch them in the act.

Sitting in the open and calling (for a mate?, trying to mark territory?) means that is much easier to photograph than the wren.

When this guys turn his head toward the camera and twists his body just a bit, it looks like he is really straining to say what he has to tell the world.

But blackbirds (and wrens) are not the only creatures to be found here, only the most noticeable. We also found a beaver lurking in the reedy water.

At a greater distance from us (hence, no good photos) were lots of ducks of various kinds, geese, and the occasional heron. Our high point was sighting a black mink crossing the trail. He was quickly across the road and instantly disappeared so there is no photo to show you 😞. Sorry.
