Arches Near the Entrance

More or less where we left off yesterday is with a look at the La Sal Mountains, so today we begin here again.

But closer to us and in the opposite direction from the distant mountains we find these imposing rock formations.

Throughout the park are these enormous formations that with only a little imagination look as if they were found in Egypt near a pyramid. It really caused me to wonder if such formations were partial inspiration for the wonders of Egypt. Who knows? Not me.

    At any rate, this is what you see before you get to any of the named wonders on the map you are given at the entrance.

One of (but not the very) first named attractions is called the Courthouse Towers.  These gigantic slabs of sandstone stand alone from one another and completely dwarf us humans in our puny cars.

I was lucky this afternoon to get some great weather. Lots of clear sky, but not too much...clouds abound in many shots as you will see. There was frequent high clouds filtering the sunlight so I avoided the harsh shadows of a completely clear sky.
