Driving south through Utah on I-15. North of Salt Lake City we drive through one of emptier sections of the country we've been through. But there are some nice mountains to see.
However, there are certainly parts that seem completely empty (well, except for the cars on the road.). Much of this drive reminded us both of driving through parts of Australia. We spoke of it at length and ended by convincing ourselves that Australia should be our next stop.
After a night is a suburb of Salt Lake City (Sandy), we continued south. This took us past the Mill Fork Cemetery which you have already seen. Our next stop was the Arches National Park. Here is a view of the entrance to the park from the side of the mountain just past the gate. What you see in the distance are the La Sal Mountains that still have a coating of snow. You'll see a lot more of them in this series of posts so remember what they are.
In fact, before we even got to any of the rock formations in the park, I felt compelled to stop and make a photo of these splendid mountains.
Once properly inside the park, the amazing formation began to appear in quick succession. Here is an early one on the 8.6 miles of the park road that we drove.
Today begins a blog-saga through the park. As you might imagine, I took many photos. I have reduced the number by only choosing the better ones and then broke it up into palatable chunks to put on the blog. Hang on to your hats (I had too, so you should have to as well), as we spend the next week or so having a look around this amazing park. If you have never been here, you should go.
