Late Summer Walk

As the seasons slowly change, I thought it time to visit a few of the gates and doorways again to see how they change.

Even here in the land of the cold, in what some call "Southern Alaska", people leave their front doors open to the afternoon heat. Almost as inviting as a warm afternoon in the south.

Just as the temperature on a warm day here is not at its peak until about 4 pm, summer only reaches its warmest in September. But the trees know. These leaves tell a tale of the coming change that is lurking just around the corner.

Like an afternoon in many places this time of year, the sun on my back is warm (finally) and the shade is cool.

And the spiders continue to work hard for the food to produce that one last brood of eggs for the season. For it is a long sleep until it is warm enough for the next cycle of life to begin and these creatures need all the insurance they can muster.

The Evergreen state is filled year round with green, but only by contrast with the late summer colors do we find a full appreciation of the comfort this endless sea of green brings.
