Doors and Such

Starting the first day of autumn, it has rained every day. Some days, it just rains all day, others we get intermittent showers. Once, it even seemed squally and we got sudden downpours that came and went abruptly as we drove along the road.

But this day was one of less frequent showers and I was able to get out and have a look about. the topic today is gates and doors, mostly.

Houses in the PNW are not strong on style. Many of the more modern ones could easily pass for warehouses if you didn't look at the windows or doors. the older ones do have a style, but not one you'd write home about.

I did find what I believe is a new Little Free Library. Of course it has its own door on the front. The tiny gnomes and mushroom on the stand was a nice touch.

These folks felt that having a door to go through to get to the side yard was a plus (for some reason). So, they just put a door standing out in the yard and opened it, I suppose to be welcoming. I'd have thought that if you are going to trouble of putting a door in the yard, you should at least keep it closed most of the time to keep the riff-raff out.

This birdbath, made of an amalgam of colored stones and cement, stand in front of a small tree in the front yard of another home (you see a neighboring house in the background).

These people love their tree so much that they could not bear to trim it to stay within the bound of the front lawn. Instead, they let it go where it will and simply cut out a door shaped opening for the sidewalk to pass through.
