Calvary Cemetery, Seattle

On a Seattle fine day (read: overcast but no rain), we headed out to Calvary Cemetery just north of the University of Washington campus. Much of this cemetery is populated with ledger stones with a sparse population of headstones of any sort. But some of the few headstones are quite nice with interesting statuary included. This one has places for candles affixed to the pages of the book that small angel is reading from.

Others include slightly more interesting inscriptions. You can just make out that this one says that Jemment Downes was accidentally killed April 22, 1918 at aged 18. Not hard to imagine the tragedy this brought to the Downes family.

This one, somehow, seems to cover all the bases with fruit, crucifixion, a flying dove and an angel in mourning. Don't know who A. M. Fiorito was, but clearly the family had some money.

This marker is placed under a large tree and this angel is standing in the shade for eternity.

This fellow was clearly thought of a lion of man who now lies in repose. Dying at age 36 make the representation of the comet on the base especially on point.

This tribute to "Irene, the love of my life" is simple and yet heartbreaking.
