St. James Church on the Inside
On a day with some bits of sunshine and no wedding, we went back to Shere to see the inside of the St. James Church.
There were some quite old graves in the floor, but the rest is a mix of old and new.
One of the interesting things to see here is the list of Rectors for the church. Note that it dates back to 1270!
The other fascinating thing to see here is the anchorite cell. Although it has been mostly filled in, the openings for the passing of food (on the left) and for the anchorite to see the service (on the right) are still intact.
There just aren't many churches with an anchorite cell and we've now been to our first one.
Outside, there is this door that I thought was worth a photo. A mixture of the old and new.

It looks like the Duncombe family had a real lock on the ministry for some time!
