Sculpture Park

Not far from our house sit in Farnham is the village of Churt. The major claim to fame here seems to be the Sculpture Park.

It is a collection of 650 sculptures spread along a 2 mile walk in the woods. Nearly everything is for sale. Think of it as a large outdoor showroom for artists.

Most of the pieces are modern art of one form or another. The skeleton was a common motif.

These bleeding hearts hung over one of the ponds caught my eye.

Other statues are more dramatic, especially with the strongly lit background of the forest.

This stone creation is more subdued and has clearly been sitting here a while what with all the lichens.

One of the most striking statues was one of a bare-breasted woman running.

In front of her is a tree and by shooting through the limbs/leaves, I got this image that frames her face quite nicely. This has the added advantage of obscuring the other sculptures in the background to really isolate her.

Some pieces seem to be sliced out of a translucent stone. I suspect that it is formed of a dyed resin that was poured into a mould of the desired shape.

Even though this one is clearly broken, it is still quite striking.

Some of the statuary is wooden rather than resin, stone or metal. This one has a lovely face taking in the welcome sunlight.
