Berwick Upon Tweed

Berwick Upon Tweed is a walled city and from atop the wall, you get a nice view of the River Tweed. Looking upstream, we see the Royal Border Bridge. It was built between 1847 and 1850 and opened by Queen Victoria. It is a railway bridge.

Looking downstream, we see the city and the bay where the river joins the North Sea.

There are three bridges that cross the river here and the Berwick Bridge is by far the oldest. It was originally built between 1611 and 1624.

The third bridge is the Royal Tweed Bridge (no pictured) that was built in the 1920's and carried most of the vehicular traffic. The bridge above now only carries traffic one-way.

And with this brief glimpse of Berwick, we say adieu to the north of England. We next drive south to Farnham, Surrey for a longer sit.
