Hop-on Hop-off Tour of Sydney

On a warm summer's day, we took the train to the Circular Quay and bought ourselves tickets for the Hop-on Hop-off bus tour. There are two routes visiting different parts of the city. By changing buses a couple times, we rode the entire route and simply watched the city scroll past us.

Buildings in the city range from Georgian and Regency stone to late Victorian brick and ultra-modern glass skyscrapers.

In the center of the city, there's lots of construction in progress. since we were riding on the top of the two-level bus, we got a close-up view of the "second-story man" having a break.

One of the most famous beaches in Australia is Bondi (Bond-Eye) beach. It is indeed a nice beach but compared to those we've seen around Australia is it small and seems a bit ordinary. It has the advantage of being close to the CBD.

But in the city, there are some very impressive office buildings.

The harbor is one of the finest deep water harbors in the world. It is extremely busy with water taxis, ferries, cruise ships, and sailboats. This view from the base of the Sydney Harbor Bridge is a classic one. You will notice on the far shore Luna Park. This is another one similar to the one we visited in Melbourne at St. Kilda Beach.

Here we see a juxtaposition of the old and new buildings.

Alng one of the streets that is all torn up with construction, we see where the contractors are prepared for having at this section of sidewalk as well.

Sitting on the top of the bus was warm but not unpleasant and it gave us great views of the skyline.

Another shot of the old standing next to the new. This is something we noticed about London, UK as well. This is the sign of a thriving city.

Finally, here is the famous Sydney Opera House. We'll see more of this in the next post.
