Sydney

Once back in New South Wales and settled into our house sit in the Sydney suburb of Eastwood, we bought a couple train passes and headed into the city.

Not far from the Central Quay train station is the famous opera house and the cruise ship port. up the hill a bit from the water is George Street and the oldest pub in Sydney, the Fortune of War.

Farther along George St. we come to Martin Place a (relatively) quiet pedestrian mall filled with people eating lunch and enjoying the architecture. At the George end of the street is the post office. this hallway is the front of the post. Not quite what you expect if you live in the US, is it?

On King Street is St. James Anglican church. It has the modest appearance of most Anglican churches; clean and simple.

There are some interesting memorials along the walls here. This one, for example...

And there is some nice stained glass here as well.

Our last stop on this trip is the Strand Arcade. This is a old, upscale arcade filled with people shopping and looking for things they mostly can't afford.

There is even a shoeshine stand about midway along the arcade. You don't often see these anymore and when you do, they rarly have show shiners with ties and vests

I also really love the floor tiles.
