Mossman Gorge
After our private trip along the Daintree River, we headed back toward Port Douglas. Along the way we stopped in Mossman and investigated the gorge created by the Mossman River.
The clear water flowing through the rainforest created a place with boulders and swimming holes, rapids and quite pools.
We parked at the visitor center and took a bus to the beginning of the walk through the forest. As you might imagine, walking among the dense trees made humid place without a bit of breeze. In this way it reminded me of being in the Amazon rainforest in Peru.
There were signs warning us about Crocodiles and Cassowaries, but there were so many people (bus loads at a time) watering the track that I can't imagine that either are common here at all. Our only Cassowary was in a zoo, alas.
Nevertheless, it was a calming place of dense vegetation and a serene, boulder strewn river.
