Gladsmuir Church

Just along the A199 stand the Gladsmuir Church. Actually, there are two of them. The older one built shortly before the creation of the parish in 1695 stands to the north of the newer one which was built in 1839.

The older one is in ruins but still retains a stately quality. It was neither a large nor fancy church but it had a beautiful tower and was well made.

There are graves in side the church. These clearly date from after the church was ruined since I'm pretty sure that guns of the sort that this soldier is holding did not exist in 1695.

I can find no indication of why it fell into ruins other than it was superseded by the newer church and allowed to decay.

In addition to the newer graves inside the ruins, there are also original wall memorials inside.
