From District 7 to District 8

In this part of town, there is lots of reminders that you are in the place where the 1956 revolution occured. One of these reminders is the reproduction of the Time magazine cover from 1957 declaring the Hungarian Freedom Fighter to be Man of the Year. You will notice that the flag has a hole cut in the middle. The Russians had added a red star to the middle of the Hungarian flag to indicate that it was a colony of theirs. The revolutionaries cut out this star.
Another mural that harkens back to the same era is this Alice in wonderland eating cookies labeled "motivation" as she tries to escape from the house she is in. You will notice that she has a halo as well.

As we cross into District 8, we find evidence of more gentrification with buildings in bad shape next to recently renovated ones.

Across the street is the Rákóczi Market Hall. It is smaller version of the Central Market I will show you soon (and O posted about on our earlier trip).

Inside is delightful greengrocer but not a lot else... there's a meat market and few other things. But it bright, clean, and inviting. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd definitely shop here.
