More of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi

The wooden flooring and that of the altar piece really complement the design and colors of the cathedral.

The gold (leaf or color, I don't know) on the column capitals makes this details really stand out.

The style of the church limits the size of the stained glass windows, otherwise this space would be filled with particolored light. Nevertheless, the windows are quite nice and really add to the impact of the space.

Clearly, there is a sizable budget being spent to maintain and improve this place. I suppose that since the Pope declared it a Basilica in 2005, no expense has been spared.

It is well worth a visit when you are next in Santa Fe. During the week, it is not so crowded (at least now at the tail end -- we hope -- of the covid).

  1. This reminds me of some Florentine churches (i.e., the Duomo and San Lorenzo). So airy and full of light!
