Madrid, NM

One of our first outings upon arrival in Santa Fe, was to Madrid. This tiny little town is east of the Sandia mountains in the desert. It used to be s mining  town but is now taken over by artists, jewellers and purveyors of expensive decorative items.

It is a dusty wide spot in the road filled with upscale cars, people and handmade items. Even these oddly shaped goats and birds are made right here by the lady sitting at the counter inside.

My memory of being here about 12 years ago is of a place that had almost none of this. It really seems to have grown.

In the store with the "no photographs allowed" sign, I was able to get a quick snap of the kachina dolls on sale.

Everything here is artsy. Even the dirt is decorated with broken tiles and glass of all colors.
