Durango

After our morning visit to see the arches and a quick stop to see Lowry Pueblo, we headed down the road to spend the night in Durango, CO. As you can see, this is a nice little town with lots of interesting architecture.

There was lots of activity in the streets with construction of outdoor shelters for eating and drinking. Clearly folks are gearing up for the summer tourist season.

The intricate facades on some of the buildings make it clear that this not a simple cow town of the old west. Mining and logging were important here as well and the money from these activities shows.

There are also buildings that show signs of a more modern touch. Durango is a town that is growing and doing just fine. If you check the map, you'll see that it is just about the only thing in this corner of the state. It makes sense that it is the place to which people flock.
