Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery

With the restrictions lifting and a spot of sunshine, we headed out to investigate one the major cemeteries in Seattle. This is the Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery in north Seattle, just across the road from the hospital where Seamus was born.

One of the major sections of the cemetery is for those of the military. Below you see a large statue, located near the entrance, commemorating those who fell fighting in WWI.

The neat rows of white markers, flow across this gentle hillside and is accented by the lone tree standing among them. It seems that memorial day required quite a bit of work putting a flag out for each marker.

The flags mirror the stones in their straight rows even in sections where there are no white stones, only in-ground plaques.

But where there are stone markers, it is a bit overwhelming to see so many dead all lined up as if marching.

We found stones indicating where soldiers from the Spanish-American War were buried. There are people (well, men only at these dates, I reckon) buried here from many states. Presumably, they grew up elsewhere and moved here after the war(s) to make a new home.his fellow below has his occupation as a soldier chiseled on his marker: horseshoer.
