Boise ID to Home

Eager to get home, we arose early and headed out before sunrise. The drive to Boise was a long one and today's was a little shorter but still over 7 hours.

We are now driving north west and aimed, as the crow flies, almost directly from Boise to Snohomish. The land is undulating and dry this time of year. Lots and lots of brown.

I-84 takes us through a corner of Oregon. Just before we head into the Pendleton–Hermiston Micropolitan Statistical Area as it seems to be called, we crested a series of low hills and stopped at Deadman's Pass Lookout to see what we could see. Farmland mostly. I'll be in the spring when things green up, this is quite beautiful. For now it a bit forlorn and empty.

But soon we cross the Columbia River between Umatilla, OR and Plymouth, WA and we are finally back in our new home state.

We continued through the brown grassland for some time before we came to the Cascade mountains and started into the Snoqualmie pass. On the other side is only traffic.

We got to the junction of I-90 and I-405 to turn north to Snohomish at about 2:45. Already the Friday evening rush homeward was in full swing and it took almost an hour to cove the last 30 minutes of road. But we made it, safe and sound, to our own beds. We were greeted by smiling faces and lots of hugs.

Of course, the fun part came the next day: unpacking. We had help from the semi-infinite supply of McDonagh's around here and it went quickly. We have more stuff than will fit in the apartment, but only a little of it is more furniture than fits. So, most of what is stored is boxes of stuff and we'll eventually get through this and have a another yard sale to clear it out.

A quick check of the truck rental agreement shows that we drove 3309 miles (5325 km) in our trek. I'm beginning to feel every one of those miles as I start moving again and working out the stiffness induced by days of simply sitting. Reckon unpacking is a good exercise for that?
