Mambray Creek Campground

Our grand plan was to spend the night at Mambray Creek Campground located between Port Augusta and Port Pirie in the Remarkable Mountains (sounds like a place from the Hobbit, right?). We drove to the campground and, guess what, it was just as hot here as was anywhere else...no altitude break at all. This made us very reluctant to pitch our tent.

When we got to the campground and rode around, we found another glaring reason to not stay here. There was really no one else here. Empty. Pitching a tent in what is essentially a vacant lot just doesn't seem smart.

So we drove back to where we had cell service and E made us a booking at nice, cool place in Port Pirie for the night.

The only good thing about our visit to the campground was we got to see some Emu. There was also a monitor lizard of some sort having a stroll in the wooded section of the campground. E reckoned that the lack of people and the possibility of unwelcome visitors in the night pretty much sealed the deal.

So, we headed on down the road to Port Pirie and had a pleasant night in a quite, safe hotel room.
