Adelaide River War Cemetery

Heading south from Darwin, back down the same (only) road, we stopped in Adelaide River to check out the War Cemetery. The gate was locked but from over (and through) the fence we could see a beautifully kept space honoring those who served.

Someone even put an Aussie bear in his uniform on the gate.

Looking over the fence, we can see the neat row of markers for the fallen. the plantings are very well done.

Out on our side of the wall were trees with brass plaques marking the deaths of several people. Most interesting was a marker to commemorate those who kept the road between Alice Springs and Darwin open and the supplies coming to maintain the city and the war effort. It notes that a military convoy in 1995 came through to celebrate keeping the road open for the duration.
