Mitiamo
A couple hours north of Castlemaine is the Terrick Terrick National Park. At the edge of this is the very small town of Mitiamo. We drove up here to see what we could see. Although the images are not very clear, we saw White Necked Herons have a feed in the fields.
We also some birds of prey checking out the scene. This is a Nankeen Kestrel sitting on a fence post.
At this distance from the rolling hills of the gold fields, we have reached the long straight stretches of road.
An our trip to Mitiamo, the small town on the edge of the park would not be complete with a visit to the local cemetery.
There were a few markers that were interesting.
Lots of people here lived to old age.
This cemetery is located in a field surrounded by bush and is covered by the expansive sky. This gives the taller stones a greater sense of majesty and importance.
But the one that I'll always remember has this cryptic statement on it...
I don't know that the legend is, but I'd sure like to hear about it. I'm sure the story is a rich one.
This marker was reclining in the soil softened by years of rain.
Out by the roadside as we were leaving the cemetery, there was a flock of Galahs.
This is a common bird in Australia. It is a bit surprising that I have so few photos of them.
