Cockatoos
We have seen a new kind of cockatoo, the Yellow-Tailed Black one. There was a flock of them in the top of a tree. As you can tell from the photos (seen better in the ones below), it was raining when we saw them.
These are large birds with some striking yellow coloration. The first image shows a bird in flight in the background and you can see some muddy-orange color in there as well. But, as you see below, the tail is a nice bright yellow.
This is a large bird, certainly the size of the sulfur-crested cockatoo, but not a loud one. The cries it makes are not nearly as raucous as that of the sulfur-crested.
From this more forward angle, you can again the dirty orange marking across the breast.
The number of new birds we've seen in Tasmania is not nearly as large as on the mainland. Perhaps this is due, in part, ot our visit being in winter, but also because there is a small variety of birds on the island.
