Vaughan Springs
Just south of Castlemaine is the Digging National Heritage Park where much of the local gold was dug. It is a beautiful area with hills and bush.
Where the stream flows through the area is a park and picnic area. We stopped for a while to enjoy the stream and the many birds we found there.
The first of our old friends we saw was the Eastern Yellow Robin. We first saw this fellow Just outside of Toowoomba last winter. But here, they were playing alla about us, posing for the camera.
He would fly from tree to post and onto another tree and pose at each location. Each time the view is different.
Sitting here on the side of the tree like nuthatch is his most natural pose
The Red Browed Finch was also out to greet us.
As was the Eastern Rosella. Here we see him eating what he is holding with his foot. I don't think I was ever that limber.
But the joy comes from watching the Superb Fairy Wren. The males are bright blue this time of year as mating season comes on. Both males and females flit from spot to spot around the open parklands looking for food. In fact, it is nearly impossible to catch them doing anything other than hopping about. Here he is hopping away from the camera.
And here he is launching himself to the left.
It was a nice outing and a place we will certainly have to visit again.
