Our one night in Pécs was naturally focused on the local Christmas Market. Above you see some of the candied fruit and chocolates that make the seasons bright.
The streets are all light brightly and the buskers are out to grab a few Forint if possible.
The crowd gathers in Széchenyi Ter to see the decorations, eat and drink, and enjoy a little entertainment.
Using the base of the monument as a stage, singers appear. It has the feel of karaoke.
Here, you can enjoy a snippet of one of the better singers. Notice that what is being sung is a US Christmas carol in english. Only once, in the local market in Budapest did I hear a song sung in Hungarian and even that was an American carol.
Lots of steaming hot gluhwein for sale.
And there is plenty of hot food to be had as well.
The dishes on offer are set out for all to see.
Sausages and duck are quite popular.
As are pork joints, usually knees.
And the hearty meal is topped off with a sweet like these kürtőskalács – chimney cakes.
