Cella Septichora
The Cella Septichora (or as Google maps calls it - Tourist Attraction), the Roman Mausoleum, is an interesting place that actually sits under the modern ground level. the beams and glass you see above is the street level.
Although no bodies were found and the place apparently never used, from the construction methods and the design, it is known to be have been built to be a burial place by the Roman living here in the 4th century CE.
The entrances to some of the nearby tombs have been found.
Some entrances are clearly large enough to crawl into.
Down the street 50 meters or so is another place that is the remains of another place built for the dead. Underground, there is this burial chamber, one of two underneath an above ground facility built for the living to visit to honor the dead.
What is seen above ground is the hardly more than the foundation of the above ground portion.
