Blejsko jezero

Our final stop on the all-day tour was at Lake Bled, Blejsko jezero. We arrived just before sundown. This made it a great time to grab a few images but a bad time to do what we really came to do. This small island in the lakeBlejski otok, was on our itinerary. There are small boats that are rowed out to the island and back so we could see the church that stands there. We will have to come back one day to do that since we wasted our day fighting traffic to get back through Ljubljana to get here.

Nevertheless, the Julian alps are quite beautiful in the late afternoon sunlight. You can see on top of the cliff next to the lake is a castle (one not built into a cave). We did get to tour that castle (mostly after dark).

The flog and sunset make this a memorable location. On the side of the lake, not far from where I took this photo is a large villa that was built for Tito to use as his summer 'palace' for his enjoyment. After he died, it was converted to a fancy hotel. You can, for a price (not sure how much) spend the night in Tito's bedroom and enjoy the same luxury he did.

The sides of the mountains were on fire with the sunset.

From the cliff top at the castle, we can see Bled Island and the afterglow of the sun.
