Wyndham's Theater
We ventured down to Leicester Square to the Wyndham's Theater to see the Arthur Miller play The Price. It starred Brendan Coyle (of Downton Abbey fame), David Suchet (of Poirot Fame), Adrian Lukas, and Sara Stewart. It was exceedingly well done.
The set is the attic in the home of the deceased father of the two estranged brothers (Coyle as Victor and Lukas as Walter) where they and Victor's wife (Stewart) and the furniture appraisal man (Suchet) come to ostensibly haggle over the price of the contents of the house. Naturally, the real price being discussed is the cost of their lives and how they were spent. Gripping and thought provoking stuff. It is clear why Miller is such a lauded playwright. And this is an outstanding performance.
The theater is a grade II listed 1898 "Edwardian Baroque" style building that is, like so many other theaters in London, quite beautiful. I could sit and look even if no play were about to happen.
After the play, we walked down to the Strand to catch the 172 bus home. the stop happened to be right across the street from the St. Mary le Strand church.
