Puerto Rican Flora and Fauna

Rain showers come and go easily in Puerto Rico so we decided to take the car for a ride about the community instead the golf cart. This gave me a dry retreat in case of a downpour.

When not raining, I was able to get a few shots of interesting bits around us. Above is the Antillean Grackle apparently in a mating or territorial display.

Sitting out by one of the ponds is a Green Heron. This birds have the amazing ability to extend their neck from this pose that is reminiscent of a hunched over old man...

...to a fully extended neck that clearly puts him in the Heron family. I find it always curious that this is called the Green Heron when so little of him is green.

The Green Iguana is more suitably named although some os these guys look more orange than green.

In one of the front yards of this collection of McMansions that is the gated community we are in, someone planted orchids. I don't know what kind these are but they lend an air of elegance to the place. The subtle hues offer a delicate contrast to the expanse of grass, leaves, and the rough tree bark.
