Old San Juan

After the cathedral, we wandered Old San Juan a bit to get a feel for the place. We found Calle Fortaleza decked out with a roof of pink umbrellas. And for some reason, the fellow by the orange traffic barrel was wearing his iguana on his head, I suppose for hands-free lizard transport.

The buildings are colorful. The strings of lights on the railings suggest that this is a colorful place at night. On the other hand, reports we get from our homeowner and others is that this is a risky place to be at night. There's a price to pay for everything, I suppose.

The section we were in is on the south side of the small island containing the old town and here again we find walls for protection. Nowadays, there is a flat plane below the wall that contains a few large buildings and the cruise ship port with its promenade.

Although my lens does distort this view of the look-out on the wall, it does clearly bring the Moorish influence on Spanish architecture to the new world. As you see from the looks of the sky, rain is on the way. So we cut out ramblings short and caught an Uber back to the parking lot so we could head for home.
