Two paths diverge by a road... or some such thing. Immediately in front of you is the gate to the old Campden Manor and in the distance to the left sits St. James Church.
This is an old and important church in England.
St James church in Chipping Campden is one of the finest 'wool' churches in England, a testament to the wealth of local wool merchants during the late medieval period. The earliest church on this site was erected in the Norman period, sometime before 1180.
There are some very old graves in the churchyard with rare and interesting markers.
Near the entry door stands the baptismal font. It is not as fancy as some we've seen, but it is carefully done and quite handsome.
I am always interested to see memorials to those fallen in foreign wars (of which there were certainly plenty). Ths plaque remembers a fellow killed in the Boer war.
