Goodrich Castle - II

In the chapel, to the right side, is a niche called the sedile. This is the place where the priest sat when not engaged in his priestly duties during a service.

There are also some fun details in the masonry found here.

Next is the Keep. This was built most likely by Richard 'Strongbow' de Clare (1148-76).

The north-west tower or Lady Tower is in poor shape. I was brought down by mortar first in 1646. Today, it only survives at the basement level.

The castle gets it name from the fellow believed to have built the first castle (of which nothing remains) on this site named Godric. Documents of from 1101-2 refer to this place as Godric's Castle. Aside from changes in spelling, it has been called this ever since.

With the frequent rains of England, everything grows moss.

Another of the towers (the South-east, I believe) has had stairs built inside to allow visitors to get around the place. There is also a recent roof above to protect from the elements.
