Water Birds and Other Critters

Here's another view of the long-tailed duck we saw yesterday. Yes, I realize that this bird does not have a long tail. I believe this is a juvenal or female, hence the shorter tail.

At any rate, these are interestingly colored/marked birds and worth a look when you are in the neighborhood.

The red necked phalarope is another common bird here. The bright red on the neck really makes them stand out.

Here, he happened to align himself with a reflection in the small lake he was swimming in. I thought it made for an interesting composition.

Our frequent friend the willow ptarmigan is also found not far from the road.

The lapland larkspur is another common visitor near Nome.

We found a few musk ox that would pose for us. This fellow gave us a great photo and then...

...he walked away.
