Bodiam castle Exterior

The photo above is an interesting juxtaposition of the old and new. Notice the contrail across the sky above the castle. the original residents would certainly never have seen that!

Rendered in monochrome, we get a view of the structure that looks more in keeping with what we think of as a moated castle.

Below, we see the main gate where the castle was connected to the mainland via a small island set in the moat. This island was connected on both ends by bridges with one connected to the mainland being a drawbridge. The structure on the island was called the Octagon. Excavations indicate that there was a toilet here, so it likely housed a guard.
