Views of Alaska Near Nome

It is a lifeless place on first glance. Remember, however, that all the animals I've shown you in earlier posts are found in this place.

From a higher elevation, and a longer vista, the view is much more pleasant. Grass and some bushes accented by remnants of last winter's snow all in the arms of nearby mountains.

Even here, birds are found. This is the rock where we photographed the american pipit. In the context of the surrounding scenery, is is more than just another rock. It becomes a harbor from the elements with a grant view.

It must be some combination of floods or glaciers that have created this broad valley.

And along the way whatever forces are at work have gouged out this pleasant little pond in the midsts of this empty place. It is difficult to imagine how all this vegetation manages to survive the intense winters to come back so healthy co quickly each summer. Amazing place.
