Kealia Pond

The stilts are noisy bunch and are really running things in this pond.

But in between shouting matches, they do stop to find some food.

All this activity is happening under the watchful eye of a great blue heron. This fellow is decked out in his breeding plumage and has his head feathers slicked back looking for a mate (or lunch, whichever comes along first).

From his perch high in this small tree, he really does appear to be an apex predator.
