Cornelian Bay Cemetery
In Cornelian Bay, just north of Hobart along the Derwent river is what seems to be the main cemetery for the area. On this sunny day, we see that we are again standing at the foot of Mount Wellington.
This is an interesting cemetery. There are a variety of interesting statues located here. This one is sitting on top of a grave and the thin cement covering has collapsed under the weight of the statue.
One of the interesting things we saw in the cemetery is that many of the markers are painted to highlight the stonework.
I found this marker especially interesting. I think that may be clouds to the right of the angel.
I found a row of tall columns of assorted shapes.
This is my favorite one marker. It is for a little girl and has been recently painted in some pretty vivid colors. It looks a bit out of place for a cemetery with its lifelike colors.
This one has only the writing painted to make it easier to see who it is. I don't think that Ann's five children also departed on 27 September 1885, but that is a possibility. Such a tragedy in either case.
