The Cemetery of St. John's Catholic Church
St. John's Catholic Church is not a place that we visited. It is oldest still-functioning Catholic Church in Tasmania. However, it seemed to be closed on the day we visited, so we went to the cemetery instead.
The cemetery is located on the side of a steep hill that overlooks farm land. It is filled with stone of interesting shapes and colors.
Many of the stones are standing at fairly rakish angles as the hill erodes and the ground subsides.
It is unclear what is keeping this one from falling over and being done with it.
I'm sure that the original intent of the stone maker was not the multi-colored marker we see today, it is an interesting selection of colors. The blue and orange are complementary (on the color where) and give the stone a feeling of intent and calmness. Things that I'm sure the Catholics appreciate in their cemetery.
And, as is always the case in these older cemeteries, some stones don't make in one piece.
