Laxey

A trip to Laxey, a bit farther up the eastern coast from Douglas, but shy of Ramsey, revealed new adventures. Here we see the Quarry Falls. Hidden a short way off the road with no indication of any sort that it is here other than the sound of the rushing water which we could hear from the street.

This is by the most interesting falls we've seen so far on this island. the many streams and paths for the water flowing over the several ledges is really quite nice.

But the high drama is on Shore Road by the sea in 'downtown' Laxey. Here we see the beginnings of a storm coming in (Ciara). The pavement where I stood was wet with seaspray and I have to clean the camera lens several times.

After a cup of coffee (and tea for E) I took several photos of the edge of the street, the walkway opposite and the sea. This first one has a woman walking her dog in what would see to be a perfectly normal afternoon winter walk. She seems unaware (or at least unconcerned) of the drama unfolding beyond her.

This person, on the other hand is clearly dressed for the onslaught that is headed her way. We know that at this spot it will rough sich we've see the newspaper stories telling us that this stretch of the rod will be closed soon. And we can see stones from the rocky beach all over the pavement that have been thrown up in recent episode of ocean agitation.

And finally, we have the emptiness that this wide stretch of shoreline suggests. The storm gathering on this lonely stretch is a brooding portent of that to come.

This view feels lighter than the above, with the sun lighting the sea along the line of sight.

As I write this, we sit in out warm house waiting for the brunt of Ciara to hit. The wind has been growing all afternoon. It has now reached the point where the cat longer wishes to be out. We have stowed the outdoor furniture and secured the outdoor clothes drying rack. We've done what we can and have only now to wait for what is reported to be 80 mph winds.

Going to be an interesting evening.
