Geeba and the Peel Cemetery

We had a beautiful day to drive across the Isle of Man from Douglas to Peel. Along the way, we stopped in Geeba to see a few of the farmhouses.

This is what the countryside hereabouts looks like...Georgian houses surrounded by vast fields of sheep (or no sheep as is the case here).

On the outskirts of Peel, we found the community cemetery. With the sun still low in the winter sky, we had some good views of the countryside.

And the cemetery made for a great foreground as well.

This gravestone has an interesting shape. It reminds me of some I've seen in Kensal Green in London.

Seeing a cemetery here with a bit of sun shining on the stones is a real treat and I had to photograph this.

One of the motifs of Victorian cemetery are is the broken column to represent the life cut short. Here we find a stone really broken for this person. The symbolism of this (accident?) cannot be ignored.

In the morning light, this angel really stood out. She seemed to give this place a new character and, in this light, a brighter perspective.
