Langness Peninsula Lighthouse
There is a spit of land that sticks out into the sea and forms one arm of the bay at Castletown. This is Langness Peninsula. It was the first stop one a day of photography led by David Silvester. Among the many things he does is lead people on photo tours about the island. Today I got a personal tour to see some interesting places in a new way.
All the lighthouses on the island are automated these days, so the buildings would seem to be superfluous. But, much to my surprise, I found that it is now holiday self-catering cottages. This would really give you a taste of the island life if a storm should come up!
It is surrounded by fields of very thick grass that seems to be the norm here along the coast. Walking on the grass feels a bit like walking on very thick fur.
On a day with a bit of clouds and sun, we ventured out to see what we could see. Over the next few days, I'll post here some of what we found on the adventure.
